Antonia Polish Hill River Riesling 2006
Trading as PSince their inception in 1983 Paulett Wines have been renowned for producing exceptional Riesling wines from the small, but highly regarded sub region of the Clare Valley-Polish Hill River. In the year 2000 family discussions commenced on the desire to produce an ultra premium Riesling. One that was definitely Paulett in style that was pure essence of Riesling in the Polish Hill River, and one that would cellar for many years. In 2004 conditions and circumstances combined to allow the process to commence and the result is Antonina (pronounced An tonne nee na). The Paulett property was owned by a Polish settler Andreas Wieman and this wine is named after his daughter Antonina. Only 100 cases were made.
Tasting Notes
Variety: 100% Riesling
Fruit Source: The fruit comes from our vineyard that runs adjacent to our other premium the “Andreas” Shiraz. It was hand picked with individual bunch selection monitored by our wine makers to ensure only the best bunches were included. Transported by buckets and gently added to the press, it was then lightly squeezed to extract only the best and finest juice. This gave a small but top class production that encapsulates all that was planned.
Vintage: With no rain throughout the entire vintage we experienced a perfect ripening time which enabled the fruit to mature beautifully.
Wine Specifications: Alcohol 12% , pH 2.86, Total acidity 9 g/l, Residual sugar 4.2 g/l
Wine Maker’s Notes
Restrained yet evidence of powerful fruit with a wonderful spectrum of citrus flavours through the wine. A beautiful mineral citrus acid backbone that harmonizes with the fruit giving great length and a zesty clean finish.
Cellaring potential: The structure and balance of Antonina ensures a cellaring potential of well over 10 years. Sealed under screw cap.
Reviews: James Halliday The Weekend Australian, July 2-3 2005:
“..is the just released 2004 Paulett Antonina Riesling (94 points), the first super-cuvee from the winemaker Neil Paulett, which he regards as his best riesling, with vibrant apple and citrus in a palate of diamond like purity and clarity”.
