The Jim Jim’ Pinot Gris 2007

Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio (literally – Pinot grey) has been around for along while in Europe, particularly in France, Alsace and the Friuli – Venezia-Giulia region of Italy. A mutation of Pinot Noir, the grape takes its name from the comparatively grey appearance of the fruit. The grape skin colour ranges from greyish blue to brown-pink; sometimes the skins appear quite dark, sometimes very pale. For this reason the wine some-times takes on a pink hue.

“ The Jim Jim’ is a small mountain, elevation 750m, just near the famous Hanging Rock in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region of Victoria and lends its name to our vineyard situated on its slopes. It is cold by world viticultural standards, producing wines that have a lot in common with the cooler regions of France, Italy & Germany where Pinot Gris is often grown.

Diverging from previous winemaking approaches, in 2007 our Pinot Gris has spent some time in old oak The result is a well balanced wine with a hint of added palate weight from the old oak influence.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Lifted aroma of pear and tropical fruits with traditional Sauvignon cut grass notes. Fresh but not overbearing.
Colour: Pale straw with a light green tinge.
Palate: Fresh fruit with a lively supple richness on the palate and a lingering, crisp finish. Long and delicate.

Technical Details

Colour: A touch of Pinot Gris skin colour in addition to the traditional mid straw.

Nose: Honey suckle, with Nashi pear and custard apple. There is also an underlying herbaceous note to the wine.

Palate: Great minerally acid to fruit balance which provides the wine with a wonderful structure and prominent pear and apple characters. Generous and soft on the front palate, a firm acid backbone structure carries the fruit all the way through to a very long, crisp finish. The wine is refreshing, with a slightly rounded, textural mouth feel.
