Jim Jim Sauvignon Blanc 2007
‘The Jim Jim’ Sauvignon Blanc is 100% Estate grown and bottled.
The Jim Jim is a small mountain, elevation 750m, just near the famous Hanging Rock in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region of Victoria. Our vineyard sits on the slopes of the ‘Jim Jim’ which lends its name to this our flagship white table wine.
The vineyard is cold by world viticultural standards, producing wines that have a lot in common with the cooler regions of France and New Zealand and bearing little similarity to those of the warmer parts of Australia where this variety is often grown.
Sauvignon Blanc is an early ripening variety that has distinctive grassy, herbaceous characters when grown in cool climates.
“The Jim Jim” is an exceptional example, winning many trophies and international accolades over the last ten years. Most significant of these was the English Magazine ‘Wine’, which judged the 1994 equal top in an international challenge tasting of 60 world wines. The ‘1996′ was judged winner of the Australian Boutique Winemakers’ Exhibition.
The 2005 vintage our Jim Jim Sauvignon Blanc won a GOLD MEDAL at the Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition 2005 and in James Halliday’s 2007 Wine Companion was awarded 94 Points – “Attractive gooseberry and citrus aromas and flavours; great drive on a vibrant finish and aftertaste.”
TASTING NOTES
Colour: pale green/yellow, and will intensify with ageing.
Nose: Grassy and herbaceous, but with overtones of lychee, gooseberry, and asparagus.
Palate: Fresh, full of varietal fruit character – hints of passionfruit and asparagus, just-right acid on the middle and back palates and a clean, crisp finish.
Potential: An excellent aperitif, and a perfect match for seafood. It will cellar well for many years, but for the best rewards drink whilst still young and fresh.
